JERUSALEM, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Europa League club Maccabi Tel Aviv announced on Wednesday the signing of former Croatian international goalkeeper Simon Sluga on a contract until the end of the season.

The 31-year-old Sluga joined the Israeli champions following the serious injury of one of Maccabi's goalkeepers, Ofek Melika, who is expected to be out for several months.

Sluga has played since January 2022 with the Bulgarian champion Ludogorets Razgrad, where he arrived after two and a half seasons in the English Championship side Luton Town, where he made 94 appearances.

His club career also includes Croatian teams Pomorac Kostrena, Lokomotiva Zagreb, and HNK Rijeka, where he made a total of 39 appearances and was part of winning three league titles, one Croatian Cup and one Super Cup.

He also has three appearances for the Croatian national team, in the international friendlies against Türkiye, Georgia, and Tunisia.

On Saturday, Maccabi Tel Aviv will play against Maccabi Haifa in the Israeli Premier League classico match, and five days later, it will face Real Sociedad in Belgrade in the third round of the Europa League. Enditem
