PRAIA, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- More than 30,000 Cape Verdeans are currently facing a food crisis due to climate change and the Ukraine conflict, which have driven up food prices, a senior official said Wednesday.

At the opening of a conference held in Paris for World Food Day, Cape Verde's Minister of Industry, Commerce and Energy Alexandre Monteiro said that the government has implemented several measures to mitigate the impact on those affected, including subsidies for livestock feed, maize, and wheat, expanding grain storage capacity, and providing support to regulators and importers.

He underscored the importance of promoting sustainable agricultural practices to support smallholder farmers and reduce resource inequalities.

Also speaking at the event, FAO interim representative David Matern emphasized the shared responsibility of governments to integrate the right to food into their agricultural and food policies, ensuring that everyone has equal access to safe and nutritious food. Enditem
