AMMAN, Oct. 17 (Xinhua) -- Jordan's Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said on Thursday that halting aggression against Gaza and Lebanon and the Israeli escalation in the occupied West Bank is the first step toward ending the tensions and protecting the region from slipping into a wider war.

The minister made the remarks at a meeting in Amman with Romanian Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu, where they also discussed cooperation in facilitating humanitarian assistance to Gaza and Lebanon.

Safadi praised Romania for recognizing the State of Palestine, offering support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, and endorsing the two-state solution as a means to achieve just peace and security in the region, according to a statement by the ministry.

During the meeting, they discussed ways to develop bilateral relations and enhance efforts to end the regional escalation.

The two ministers also emphasized the importance of continuing to expand cooperation in fields such as education, trade, agriculture, and defense. Enditem
