NICOSIA -- Cyprus has joined a small group of European Union (EU) countries banning mobile phones in secondary schools.

Education Minister Athina Michaelidou announced that new rules will be issued in two weeks, requiring devices to be deactivated and stored during school hours, except for emergencies or educational use. (Cyprus-School-Mobile)

VIENTIANE -- Laos has made significant strides in poverty alleviation across the country, Lao News Agency reported on Friday.

JERUSALEM -- The Israeli military continued its push into Lebanon on Friday, calling up another brigade for combat and urging residents of 23 listed villages and towns to flee northward.

"For your own safety, you must evacuate your homes immediately and move to the north of the Awali River," Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Spokesperson Avichay Adraee wrote on social media platform X.
