BAGHDAD -- The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced Saturday the signing of a deal with Turkmenistan to import up to 20 million cubic meters of gas per day to supply Iraq's power stations.

Iraqi Electricity Minister Ziyad Ali Fadhil said the agreement is an important step to diversify gas sources to meet the need for fuel of power plants, according to the statement by the ministry. (Iraq-Turkmenistan-Gas)

LILONGWE -- Malawi and Mozambique have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on a Simplified Trade Regime aimed at enhancing bilateral trade relations between the two countries.

Speaking on the sidelines of the signing ceremony on Friday in Lilongwe, Malawi's Minister of Trade and Industry Sosten Gwengwe said the newly signed MoU will address issues that have been affecting cross-border trade between Malawi and Mozambique. (Malawi-Mozambique-Trade)

ROME -- Defense ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) countries on Saturday expressed concerns over the escalating tensions in the Middle East.

In a joint statement issued at their first summit of this year in southern Italian city of Naples, the ministers said they were worried about "escalation" in the Middle East after Israeli attacks on the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in Lebanon. (Italy-G7-Middle East)

GAZA -- At least 73 Palestinians were killed on Saturday by Israeli bombing in the town of Beit Lahia in the northern Gaza Strip, the Hamas-run Gaza government media office said.
