JAKARTA, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- A bus driver and four passengers were killed and seven other passengers, including two infants, were injured in a fatal vehicle collision on a highway in the Indonesian province of East Java early Monday.

The accident occurred in Pasuruan at around 1 a.m. local time, involving a passenger bus and a truck, according to a preliminary report by the Pasuruan police. The bus was reportedly carrying 12 people at the time of the crash.

Pasuruan police chief Davis Siswara told local media that the deceased and injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals, and officers are still investigating the exact cause of the accident.

An initial investigation revealed that the 23-year-old bus driver had been feeling sleepy and exhausted when he hit the rear of the unidentified dump truck traveling in the same direction.
