TASHKENT, Oct. 21 (Xinhua) -- Uzbekistan's solar and wind power plants have generated 4 billion kWh of electricity since the beginning of 2024, according to the Ministry of Energy.

There are currently nine solar power plants with a total capacity of 2.7 GW and one wind power plant operating in Uzbekistan, producing environmentally friendly "green" energy, local media reported on Monday, citing the Ministry of Energy.

This energy generation has helped save 1.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas, preventing the release of 1.68 million tons of harmful emissions into the atmosphere, the report said.

According to the press service of the Uzbek president, the potential of solar and wind energy in the country is 10 to 12 times higher than the current demand for electricity. Enditem
