RIGA, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- International experts have concluded the evaluation of Latvia's radiation safety infrastructure with favorable results, the Latvian State Environmental Service said on Tuesday.

The assessment was carried out by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) from Oct. 13 to 18, analyzing not only the radiation safety infrastructure, but also the protection of inhabitants against ionizing radiation, the protection of employees and patients against medical exposure. Transportation of radioactive materials, dismantling and disposal of radiation objects, management of radioactive waste, and preparedness for radiological emergencies were also evaluated.

The first comprehensive assessment of this kind in Latvia was carried out in 2019. During the latest interim evaluation, experts assessed progress made in the implementation of the recommendations of the initial assessment, said the State Environmental Service.

The next full-scale international assessment will be in 2029. Enditem
