GAZA, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Seven Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a school sheltering displaced people in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian sources on Tuesday.

Medical sources and eyewitnesses told Xinhua that Israeli artillery struck the Zayd bin Haritha school, killing seven people and injuring several others.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military regarding the attack.

The Israeli army continued its ground operation in the Jabalia refugee camp, one of the largest in the Gaza Strip, for the 18th consecutive day on Tuesday.

The Israeli military claims that its operation in Jabalia and nearby areas aims to prevent Hamas fighters from regrouping to launch further attacks.

Israel has been conducting a large-scale offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip to retaliate against a Hamas rampage through the southern Israeli border on Oct. 7, 2023, during which about 1,200 people were killed and about 250 taken hostage. Enditem
