ISTANBUL, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Two Turkish airlines have suspended their flights to and from Iran until Nov. 1 due to rising security concerns, the semi-official Anadolu Agency reported Wednesday.

Türkiye's flagship carrier Turkish Airlines halted its flights to and from "many Iranian cities," and low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines suspended its flights to Tehran, Shiraz, and Isfahan, due to the increasing risk stemming from claims that Israel is preparing to attack Iran, the report said.

On Oct. 1, Iran fired approximately 180 missiles at Israeli targets. Tehran described the strikes as retaliation for the assassinations of several leaders of the regional resistance groups and Israel's military actions against Lebanese and Palestinian armed groups.

In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that Iran had made a "grave mistake" and vowed retaliation.

According to a report by Israel's state-owned Kan TV on Monday, Israeli Cabinet ministers had been informed that a planned counterattack against Iran would take place "very soon."

Mohammad-Ali Jafari, a senior Iranian commander, said Tuesday that Israel is unlikely to take a "major and significant" military action against Iran and would probably carry out a "desperate, limited and small-scale" attack.

"If the enemy takes a major and significant action, it will receive a response several times greater in intensity," he said. Enditem
