MADRID, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Atletico Madrid have presented their candidacy for the club's Metropolitano Stadium to host the 2027 Champions League final, UEFA confirmed on Wednesday.

The Metropolitano currently has just one rival to host the biggest game in European football, which is the Baku Olympic Stadium in Azerbaiyan, but the window is open until March 19, 2025 for other candidacies to be presented.

The 64,000 capacity stadium hosted the 2019 Champions League final between Liverpool and Tottenham that Liverpool won 2-0 with goals from Mohamed Salah and Divok Origi.

One factor against Atletico is the behavior of their fans, after UEFA recently handed the club a 30,000-euro fine after a section of their supporters made Nazi salutes in their recent 4-0 defeat to Benfica. Enditem
