DAKAR, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye on Wednesday asked Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko to take immediate actions to ensure the timely completion of key infrastructure projects for the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) set to be held in Senegal in 2026.
During a meeting of the Council of Ministers, Faye emphasized the importance of fulfilling the country's commitments to providing quality sports, transport, tourism, and logistics infrastructure.
According to a statement from the Council, the prime minister has been tasked with coordinating all relevant ministries and sectors to meet the standards required for constructing essential sports, road, rail, tourism, and logistics facilities.
Faye highlighted the need for careful budget management and strict adherence to project schedules as per the specifications agreed by the International Olympic Committee.
He also urged the Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture, Khady Diene Gaye, to collaborate with the Senegalese National Olympic and Sports Committee to initiate a national and international campaign promoting youth engagement in sports and culture. The program aims to ensure that Senegalese athletes are well-prepared and to boost varsity sports.
The president further stressed the importance of improving living conditions in the communities and cities where the YOG will take place. Enditem
