SARAJEVO, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Thursday pledged to provide aid to the flood-stricken areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) through the European Union's (EU) Solidarity Fund to support recovery efforts.

She made the pledge during a visit to Jablanica in central BiH, as part of her regional tour following the severe flash floods in early October.

The floods in central BiH claimed 26 lives and destroyed hundreds of buildings, with extensive losses to infrastructure. Mayor of Jablanica Damir Sabanovic estimated the damage to be around 50 million KM (27.7 million U.S. dollars).

On Friday, von der Leyen will meet with the Presidency of BiH, as well as the Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers Borjana Kristo, where details on the EU's financial aid are expected to be revealed, according to local media reports.

Von der Leyen's four-day visit also includes stops in Albania, North Macedonia, Serbia, Kosovo, and Montenegro to discuss the EU's Growth Plan and the Western Balkans' EU integration efforts. (1 KM = 0.56 U.S. dollar) Enditem
