BUENOS AIRES, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Edinson Cavani scored a late equalizer as Boca Juniors earned a 1-1 home draw with Deportivo Riestra in Argentina's Primera Division on Sunday.

The visitors took the lead in the 15th minute when Braian Sanchez deftly controlled a Nicolas Benegas pass with his chest before lifting a sublime volley over the head of goalkeeper Leandro Brey.

Cavani put his side on level terms by sliding home a close range effort following Marcelo Saracchi's cross from the left flank.

Boca were reduced to 10 men in the 96th minute when Guillermo Fernandez, a second-half substitute for Ignacio Miramon, was shown a straight red card for a bad tackle on Antony Alonso.

But the final whistle sounded before the visitors had a chance to capitalize on their numerical advantage.

Boca are 16th in the 28-team standings, 13 points behind leaders Velez Sarsfield, while Deportivo Riestra are seventh, 10 points off the pace.

In other Primera Division fixtures on Sunday, Platense won 2-1 at home to Argentinos Juniors, Banfield secured a 2-1 home victory over Racing Club, Tigre drew 1-1 at Talleres Cordoba, and Atletico Tucuman prevailed 1-0 at home to Lanus. Enditem
