DHAKA, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Bangladeshi government will float soon open tenders for the construction of 10 solar power plants in the country, Chairman of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) Md Rezaul Karim said here Sunday.

He added that steps are underway to float tender in the first week of November. The construction of the power plants having a total generation capacity of 500MW is aimed at reaching Net Zero Emissions by 2050 in the country.

The decision for the construction of the solar power plants was made initially under the Quick Supply of Power and Energy (Special Provisions) Act, 2010 (Amendment 2021) and there were reportedly allegations that power plant construction work was given to companies at a higher rate.

After coming into power, the interim government of Muhammad Yunus canceled 40 projects undertaken by the previous Sheikh Hasina government.

Bangladeshi Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan on several occasions said no power plant will be constructed without open tender from now on.

Against this backdrop, the BPDB took the initiative to invite tenders for the construction of solar power plants in 10 places in the country through the open tender method. Enditem
