WARSAW, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski said that, after securing emphatic victories over Sevilla, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, the team is experiencing "a special time" as the players were "mentally prepared for big challenges".
Barcelona took a firm grip on La Liga with a 4-0 win at Real Madrid on Saturday night. The Catalans proved their good form before the "Clasico" as they had thrashed Sevilla 5-1 and then outplayed Bayern Munich 4-1.
"It's a special time for us as we won three important games. We play extremely attacking football. We scored many goals. It's important that we always have in our heads the thought that we want more. Sometimes we feel tired in our legs, we have worse minutes, but we feel that our heads are always well prepared for big challenges," Lewandowski told Polish media on Monday.
On Saturday evening, the forward helped to tilt things Barca's way in Madrid, with a quickfire double early in the second half.
"I'm very proud, pleased, happy, not only for scoring two goals, but also for how our team played. Especially in such a stadium and against such a team. I know that I have players next to me who help me in everything," the Pole explained.
The 36-year-old sits top of La Liga's scoring charts with 14 goals from 11 games. According to Lewandowski, his goalscoring record is the result of his excellent relationships with coach Hansi Flick, with whom he had already worked at Bayern Munich.
"There is definitely something special in what Flick has introduced to the team. We understand each other without words. That certainly helps," the striker concluded.
The win lifted Barca six points clear of second-placed Real Madrid. On Sunday, the La Liga leaders face city rivals Espanyol. Enditem
