ANKARA, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said here on Monday that advancing relations with members of BRICS, which has a significant global economic impact, would benefit his country in every respects.

After a cabinet meeting in Ankara, Erdogan emphasized that Türkiye's national interests is the country's top priority and noted its potential for cooperation with BRICS members, according to a post on his account on the social media platform X.

However, he emphasized that Ankara's developing relations with BRICS are not an alternative to the country's existing commitments, noting that Türkiye will continue to fulfill its role in platforms such as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

He also said that Türkiye would keep negotiating with the European Union over its potential membership in the future.

Erdogan visited the Russian city of Kazan for the 16th BRICS Summit last week.

BRICS is an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, five major emerging markets with considerable economic potential. It has now evolved into an influential international cooperation mechanism with an expanded membership. Enditem
