COLOMBO, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's total exports for September stood at 1.2 billion U.S. dollars, a 1.17-percent decrease compared with the corresponding month of last year, according to the country's Export Development Board (EDB) on Tuesday.

Quoting data released by Sri Lanka customs, the EDB said merchandise exports in September amounted to 937.95 million U.S. dollars, a decline of 3.49 percent compared to September 2023.

This was mainly due to the decrease in earnings from exports of tea, rubber-based products, electrical and electronics, and seafood. The estimated value of services exports for September 2024 was 329.89 million U.S. dollars, an increase of 6.08 percent over the corresponding period of 2023, the EDB said.

Among Sri Lanka's top 10 export markets, the United States, Britain, Germany, Netherlands, Canada and China showed positive growth in September 2024 and the cumulative period from January to September 2024, compared to the corresponding periods in 2023, the EDB added. Enditem
