JERUSALEM, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Four Israeli soldiers were killed on Tuesday in an explosion in the northern Gaza Strip, according to a statement issued by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
The four, including an officer, served at the IDF's Multidimensional Unit, a special ground operations task force. Additionally, an Israeli officer sustained serious injuries in the explosion.
According to Israel's state-owned Kan TV News, the incident took place during an IDF operation to surround the Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip.
The soldiers were killed by a powerful explosive device while conducting a search of a building, said the report.
In an earlier statement on Tuesday, the IDF said that the Israeli ground troops, in cooperation with the Air Force, killed about 40 militants in Jabalia since Monday and dismantled military infrastructure in the region. Enditem
