UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- The UN Security Council issued a press statement on Wednesday strongly condemning Saturday's terrorist attack on law enforcement forces in southeastern Iran.
At least 10 Iranian law enforcement personnel were killed in the deadly attack in Taftan city, Sistan and Baluchestan province. The Jaish al-Adl group claimed responsibility for the attack, according to Iran's police command.
The council members expressed their deepest sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, and the people and government of Iran, the statement said.
They reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, underlining the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of these reprehensible acts of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice.
The council members urged all states, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with the Iranian government, as well as all other relevant authorities in this regard.
The council members reiterated that any acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever, and by whomsoever committed, reaffirming the need for all states to combat by all means, in accordance with the UN Charter and other obligations under international law, threats to international peace and security caused by terrorist acts.
