TOKYO, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Japan's industrial output expanded 1.4 percent in September from a month earlier, government data showed on Thursday.
The seasonally adjusted index of production at factories and mines in the cited month stood at 101.1 against the 2020 base of 100, preliminary data from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry showed.
Gains in sectors like automobiles, inorganic and organic chemicals, and electrical and information communication machinery contributed to the increase. Notably, passenger car production surged 13 percent due to recovery following typhoon impacts.
In contrast, production of semiconductor manufacturing equipment dropped 7 percent due to lower demand, while production of flat-panel display manufacturing equipment fell 25.9 percent, affected by reduced exports.
Despite September's improvement, the ministry maintained its assessment of industrial production as "seesawing." Enditem
