TOKYO, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- Japanese electronic component shipments decreased by one percent in August compared to the same month the previous year, data from the Japan Electronics and Information Technology Industries Association showed.
Shipments amounted to 384.2 billion yen (about 2.5 billion U.S. dollars), marking the first year-on-year decline since February 2023, attributed to weak automotive sales and shifts in production lines.
Shipments to the Americas and Europe dropped below last year's levels, with orders impacted by automakers adjusting production toward electric vehicles and conducting recalls in the U.S. market.
By region, shipments in Japan increased by 2 percent to 88.2 billion yen, while shipments to China remained stable at 135.9 billion yen. The Americas saw an 11 percent decline to 42.9 billion yen, and Europe saw a 15 percent drop to 35.6 billion yen.
Among component types, switches declined by 11 percent to 33.5 billion yen, while capacitors rose 1 percent to 127.7 billion yen, and connectors grew by 5 percent to 53.6 billion yen. Enditem
