VIENTIANE, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- A feasibility study will be undertaken for transforming the Nam Hin View Water Basin in northern Laos' Oudomxay province into a sustainable tourist destination, emphasizing the country's potential as a nature-based tourist destination, local media reported Thursday.

A Memorandum of Understanding for the study was signed between the Oudomxay provincial authorities and Nam Hin View Complex Company Limited, Lao News Agency reported on Thursday.

The Nam Hin View Basin development project aims to establish various tourism and recreational facilities. Planned developments include a pedestrian street, a supermarket, accommodation, entertainment venues, playgrounds, and a public park, among others.

The feasibility study is a vital step toward the sustainable development of the natural tourist destination that enhances the local economy while preserving environmental and social values.

The project is located in Nam Oun and Thasaleung villages in Xay District of Oudomxay, some 310 km north of the Lao capital Vientiane.

Oudomxay province is famous for several natural and cultural tourist attractions.

The Lao government considers tourism as its top priority in revitalizing the economy. To cater to both domestic and international tourists, the Lao government is actively pushing for improvements in hotel accommodations, tourism resources, products, transportation, and medical facilities, prioritizing quality, safety, and visitor satisfaction.
