VIENTIANE, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- A feasibility study on wind energy will be launched in southern Laos' Saravan province, an important step in promoting sustainable development.

The study for the construction of a wind farm with an installed capacity of 5 MW will take place in Ta-oy district in Saravan province, some 670 km southeast of the capital Vientiane, Lao national TV reported on Friday.

Ta-oy district has potential and conditions for the construction of wind farms to meet the province's goals for the production and supply of domestic electricity.

The study will provide an economic and technical analysis of the proposed wind farm, and assess impacts on environment and local communities.

Laos is gradually developing its wind energy sector as part of its strategy to diversify energy sources and promote renewable energy.

The government has set targets for renewable energy generation, aiming for a significant increase in share of renewable energy by 2025.

Laos has huge potential for the generation of electricity from hydropower, wind and solar sources, given its geographical characteristics. Enditem
