BANGKOK, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- It is a common scene for Li Jiachun, a 49-year-old jeweler to see jewelry enthusiasts from all over the world exploring the jewelry trading center in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, a country renowned as a global hub for processing rubies and sapphires.
As the 7th China International Import Expo (CIIE) comes around the corner, Li, a seventh-time exhibitor, is about to recreate the vibrant scene at the expo venue in Shanghai.
"This time I will bring nearly 1,000 pieces of jewelry and more than 100 rubies and sapphires to the CIIE for exhibition," Li said in an interview with Xinhua, highlighting his careful preparations to present more precious and rare items.
Li moved to Thailand during childhood and began his journey in the jewelry trading business at 18 when he founded Thailand Yongtai Jewelry Co., Ltd. As a dedicated exhibitor at the CIIE since its inception in 2018, Li believes the charm of the expo lies in "the surprises every year and the benefits gained each time."
"I am an old friend of the CIIE and have won the 'Diamond and Gemstone Boutique Pavilion Star' award several times," Li proudly shared with reporters, displaying his collection of awards that mark his transition from a newcomer to a loyal participant.
"It has been an honor to participate in the expo for seven consecutive years," Li recalled his first CIIE in 2018, where he received intended orders and established valuable connections. Since then, he has been committed to attending the CIIE every year.
"The CIIE has brought numerous benefits. Not only have we learned new things, but more importantly, we have expanded our 'circle of friends' through this platform," Li emphasized that years of participation have given him a better understanding of the evolving needs and latest trends of Chinese consumers. Furthermore, the customers and partners he has accumulated there have been instrumental in expanding his business.
Li also shared a memorable experience from the CIIE in 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite facing various challenges, he managed to participate as the sole overseas jewelry exhibitor at the fourth CIIE. He expressed gratitude for the care and support provided by the organizers, which made him feel welcomed.
"It made me even more determined to continue participating in the CIIE," Li noted.
The jeweler believes that amid the current tightening of international trade, it is a significant achievement for China to continuously host the CIIE and provide such a vast platform for global connection.
"China has shouldered its responsibilities as a major country by offering numerous economic and trade opportunities," He added, highlighting that the CIIE has created new chances for countries like Thailand to enter the Chinese market, making the broad Chinese market an excellent prospect for the world.
From his first to seventh appearance, the jeweler's booth has expanded from 36 square meters to 72 square meters. This doubling reflects not only the growth of his business but also the increasing allure and influence of the CIIE.
Over the years, Li has witnessed the development of the CIIE first-hand and has actively encouraged other Thai companies to participate in the expo.
Since November 2020, Li has served as the chairman of the Thai Chinese New Generation Business Association and is also the deputy secretary-general of the Thai Chinese Chamber of Commerce. He has been dedicated to fostering connections and collaboration between Thai and Chinese companies.
Observing that the CIIE has increasingly focused on supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), He acknowledged it could be challenging for SMEs to participate in such a large expo since many are unfamiliar with overseas exhibitions.
Li introduced that in addition to the preferential policies provided by the organizers, his chamber of commerce offers a range of assistance, including translation services, to help exhibitors take advantage of the opportunities at the CIIE.
"This year we organized a dozen Thai companies to attend the CIIE, primarily focusing on SMEs in the food and medical sectors. Everyone is very enthusiastic," Li concluded. He pledged to provide excellent services for all participants and sincerely hoped they could achieve greater success through the CIIE. Enditem
