CAIRO, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty emphasized the need for self-restraint to prevent a potential regional war in a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday.
Abdelatty discussed the regional situation and developments in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip with Araghchi during their talks late Sunday.
The Egyptian top diplomat urged all parties to take steps to prevent escalation and achieve calm, condemning provocative and unilateral measures that threaten the security and stability of the region.
For his part, the Iranian foreign minister elaborated on Tehran's positions on the regional developments and Israel's "crimes and adventurist actions," stressing that Iran reserved the right to respond to any aggression against its security and territorial integrity, according to a statement released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
Also on Sunday night, Abdelatty had a phone conversation with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, addressing the conditions in Lebanon, highlighting the necessity to respect the sovereignty, unity, and safety of Lebanon and support the Lebanese institutions. Enditem
