DAMASCUS/JERUSALEM -- Israeli airstrikes targeted areas near the Syrian capital Damascus on Monday evening.

"The Israeli enemy launched an aerial attack from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, targeting several civilian sites south of Damascus," resulting in material damage, the Syrian Ministry of Defense said in a statement. (Syria-Israel-Attacks)

JERUSALEM/BEIRUT -- An Israeli airstrike has killed senior Hezbollah commander Abu Ali Rida in southern Lebanon, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed on Monday.

Rida, targeted near Baraachit, was described by the IDF as a key operative coordinating rocket and anti-tank missile attacks on Israeli forces and overseeing Hezbollah's activities in the region. (Israel-Lebanon-Conflict)

GAZA -- A senior Hamas leader announced on Monday that the movement has held discussions with Fatah about forming a committee to manage Gaza-related issues.

CAIRO -- The 12th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF12) kicked off on Monday in New Cairo, Egypt, marking the forum's first return to Africa in more than two decades.
