JAKARTA -- Indonesia's economy grew at a slower rate of 4.95 percent year-on-year in the third quarter of this year, down from the 5.05 percent growth recorded in the second quarter, Statistics Indonesia (BPS) announced on Tuesday.

Acting head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti said in Jakarta that the third-quarter growth was largely influenced by the gross domestic product (GDP) at current prices, which reached 5,638.9 trillion rupiahs (357.5 million U.S. dollars), and GDP at constant prices, which totaled 3,279.6 trillion rupiahs (207.9 million U.S. dollars). HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's average daily turnover of ETFs reached 13 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 1.67 billion U.S. dollars) in the first three quarters of 2024, up 10 percent from the 2023 full-year average, local data showed on Tuesday.

The increase widens to 32 percent when compared to the average in full year 2022, said Joseph Chan, acting secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government, at the ETF Summit 2024 hosted by the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX). SYDNEY -- The board of the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) announced on Tuesday that it would maintain the cash target rate at 4.35 percent.

Tuesday's decision marked 12 months since the RBA board increased rates by 0.25 percentage points in November 2023.

MANILA -- The Philippines' annual inflation rate increased to 2.3 percent in October from 1.9 percent in September, driven by higher prices in food such as rice and vegetables, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said on Tuesday.

PSA chief Dennis Mapa told a news conference that food and non-alcoholic beverages rose to 2.9 percent from 1.4 percent in October. He said rice inflation accelerated to 9.6 percent in October from 5.7 percent in the previous month. (Philippines-Inflation)

TOKYO -- Cases of mycoplasma pneumonia, a respiratory disease caused by bacteria, have been surging in Japan, hitting a record high for four consecutive weeks as of Oct. 20, local media reported Tuesday.

The average number of cases reported by about 500 medical institutions nationwide was 2.01 per institution in the week ended on Oct. 20, with the figure surpassing two for the first time, Jiji Press said, citing data from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases.
