YANGON, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Solar-powered wells built with China's assistance in central Myanmar's Nay Pyi Taw Council Area are benefiting local villagers, according to a statement from the Chinese Embassy in Myanmar on Tuesday.

As part of a rural drinking water project in Nay Pyi Taw, China's Yunnan Alternative Development Association has constructed the wells. One of them was put into operation in January and the other in July this year, the statement said.

The first well, located in Telgyigon village, has given over 1,000 villagers access to water supply for agriculture and household use, it said.

The second well, which became operational in July, has provided drinking water for more than 1,000 villagers and supported agricultural water needs for 240 acres of farmlands by 30 households.

The villagers expressed gratitude to China for building the wells, saying they no longer need to travel far for drinking water, the statement added. Enditem
