ENTEBBE, Uganda, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- Hosts Uganda made a winning start in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup Challenge B match on Wednesday.
Uganda stopped Singapore by 7 wickets in the first match played at the Entebbe Cricket Oval.
Singapore captain Manpreet Singh won the toss, and his team opted to bat first to put on 82 runs in 38.4 overs. Uganda Cricket Cranes later chased to record 86 runs in only 7.5 ovals to give them victory by 7 wickets.
Dinesh Nakrani was named player of the match. Kenneth Waiswa and Riazat Ali Shah led Uganda's scoring with 26 and 24 runs, respectively.
For the Singapore team, Aritra Dutta picked up 26 runs, while Aman Desai and Rohan Rangarajan collected 19 and 14 runs respectively.
Uganda Cricket Cranes coach Abhay Sharma was happy about the performance of his team. "My team stuck to our game plan, and they executed well. We need to keep working hard and try to win all our games," added the coach.
The Challenge League B tournament is a vital step toward qualification for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup. Hong Kong, China will go head-to-head with Bahrain at the Lugogo Cricket Oval on Thursday, while Uganda faces Italy. Enditem
