The Shenzhen Component Index opened at 10,852.12 points, down 116.02 points, or 1.06 percent.

The Hang Seng Index opened at 20,386.36 points, down 152.02 points, or 0.74 percent.

The S&P/ASX 200 index opened at 8,176.70 points, down 22.80 points, or 0.28 percent.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average opened at 39,745.23 points, up 264.56 points, or 0.67 percent.

The Straits Times Index opened at 3,633.73 points, up 30.74 points, or 0.85 percent.

The Korea Composite Stock Price Index opened at 2,557.23 points, down 6.28 points, or 0.24 percent.
