TOKYO -- Nissan Motor Co. on Thursday announced a plan to cut 9,000 jobs globally and slashed its operating profit outlook for the year ending March by 70 percent.
The Japanese carmaker cut its fiscal 2024 operating profit forecast by 70 percent to 150 billion yen (about 975 million U.S. dollars), compared to 500 billion yen forecast in July, on sales of 12.7 trillion yen, also downgraded from 14 trillion yen, as it continues to battle headwinds in major markets. YAOUNDE -- At least three members of the Boko Haram terror group have been killed in Cameroon's Far North region, security sources said Thursday.

BRUSSELS -- The year 2024 is on track to become the hottest on record, with annual global temperature projected to be 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels for the first time, the EU's Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) said on Thursday.
The C3S said it is now "virtually certain" that 2024 will surpass previous temperature records, as the average temperature anomaly for the remaining months of the year would need to drop to nearly zero to avoid setting a new high. (EU-Global Warming) Enditem
