Inflation hits double digits again in Bangladesh

DHAKA, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Inflation, measured by the consumer price index (CPI), rose to 10.87 percent in October this year from 9.92 percent recorded in the preceding month in Bangladesh, the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) reported on Thursday.

According to the latest data from the BBS, food inflation increased to 12.66 percent in October from 10.40 percent in the previous month. Inflation for non-food items edged down slightly to 9.34 percent in October from 9.50 percent in September, the data showed.

The last time inflation entered the double digits in Bangladesh was in August this year and recorded at 10.49 percent. During the same month last year, inflation stood at 9.93 percent.

The country's average inflation surged to 9.73 percent in the fiscal year 2023-24 starting from July 2023 to June 2024, much higher than the budgetary target of 7.5 percent. Enditem
