SEOUL, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's domestic supply in the manufacturing industry fell for the fifth consecutive quarter due to shrinkage in domestic manufacturing production, statistical office data showed Friday.

The index of domestic manufacturing supply, which includes locally produced and imported manufacturing products, stood at 103.1 in the July-September quarter, down 0.4 percent from a year earlier, according to Statistics Korea.

It continued to decrease since the third quarter of 2023 amid lingering worry about economic slump.

The product supply by local manufacturers dwindled 2.3 percent in the third quarter on a yearly basis due to lower demand for electrical equipment, electronic parts, communication equipment.

The import of manufacturing products expanded 4.5 percent in the cited quarter on higher demand for machinery and transport equipment, rebounding in one and a half years.

The proportion of import to the total domestic manufacturing supply gained 2.0 percentage points to 29.1 percent in the third quarter compared to the same quarter of last year.

The domestic supply of intermediate goods, such as materials and components used for manufacturing production, declined 2.8 percent in the third quarter, continuing to fall for the fifth straight quarter.

The supply of consumer goods reduced 0.2 percent, but the capital goods supply increased 8.2 percent. Enditem
