COLOMBO, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Sri Lanka's Hambantota International Port (HIP) has the potential to become the "diamond in the crown" of Sri Lanka, according to the Sri Lanka Shippers' Council, which recently toured the port, HIP Group (HIPG) said in a press release on Thursday.
The HIPG reported that the Sri Lanka Shippers' Council, led by its executive committee, visited HIP last week, underscoring the port's pivotal role in Sri Lanka's economic growth.
"We fully endorse this beautiful facility, which has immense potential to grow and become a true jewel for Sri Lanka," said council chairman, Sean van Dort, who led a 42-member delegation for the visit.
The visit focused on reviewing the HIP's current facilities and discussions about its future plans.
The HIP's management team briefed the council on upcoming developments and corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Established over 50 years ago, the Sri Lanka Shippers' Council represents a substantial segment of the country's import and export trade, including members from chambers of commerce, trade associations, and other organizations. Enditem
