BUENOS AIRES, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Walter Mazzantti netted a second-half winner as Huracan boosted its title hopes with a 1-0 home win over Independiente in Argentina's Primera Division on Saturday.

Mazzantti broke the deadlock on the hour when he ran onto Rodrigo Echeverria's through ball and fired a composed finish past goalkeeper Rodrigo Rey.

The result leaves Huracan level on points with leader Velez Sarsfield but with an inferior goal difference of six. Independiente is eighth, 12 points further back with five match days remaining.

Meanwhile, Union Santa Fe stayed in the title race with a 1-0 home win over Atletico Tucuman.

The visitor was reduced to 10 men just before the hour when Gianluca Ferrari was shown a second yellow card for a bad challenge. Jeronimo Domina put his side ahead with a 74th-minute header as Union claimed its 10th win of the campaign to remain within six points of the leader.

Elsewhere, Gimnasia edged to a 1-0 home win over Newell's Old Boys, and San Lorenzo prevailed 1-0 at Rosario Central. Enditem
