KABUL, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- A delegation of Afghanistan's National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) left on Sunday for Azerbaijan to attend the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the NEPA said in a statement.

This is the first time that the Afghan caretaker government, since assuming power in August 2021, has been invited to send a delegation to the conference.

"We are seeking to share Afghanistan's climate vulnerabilities with the world in various forums during this conference," Mawlawi Matiul Haq Khalis, the NEPA chief and head of the delegation, said before departure at the Kabul airport.

According to NEPA data, climate change has become a precarious menace to Afghanistan where temperatures in southern areas have increased by 2.4 degrees Celsius over the past century.

The UN climate change conference is aimed at accelerating action to tackle climate crisis across the world. The conference is scheduled to take place in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, from Nov. 11 to 22. Enditem
