TOKYO -- One crewman is missing and another has been injured after a fire broke out on a Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (MSDF) minesweeper vessel off the coast of the southwestern prefecture of Fukuoka on Sunday, local media reported.
The MSDF's minesweeper Ukushima, carrying a crew of about 40, reported that the blaze broke out in the engine room at around 9:50 a.m. local time, when it was sailing some 2.5 kilometers off Oshima island in Fukuoka Prefecture, Kyodo News reported, citing the local coast guard and fire department. KABUL -- A delegation of Afghanistan's National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA) left on Sunday for Azerbaijan to attend the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the NEPA said in a statement.
This is the first time that the Afghan caretaker government, since assuming power in August 2021, has been invited to send a delegation to the conference. (Afghanistan-Climate Conference)

ISLAMABAD -- Six terrorists were killed and six others injured during an intelligence-based operation in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the military said on Sunday.
The security forces conducted the operation in the Spinwam area of North Waziristan district of the province on reported presence of terrorists, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistan Army, said in a statement. (Pakistan-Counter-Terrorism)

TOKYO -- Japan's weather agency on Sunday urged Okinawa residents to be on high alert for mudslides and other disasters as torrential rains are drenching the country's southernmost prefecture.
