UAE sees surge in intellectual property registrations

ABU DHABI, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- United Arab Emirates (UAE)'s Ministry of Economy announced on Monday a significant rise in intellectual property (IP) registrations during the first nine months of 2024, reflecting the country's progress in building an innovation-friendly environment.

Trademark registrations increased by 39.12 percent, while patents, utility certificates, and industrial designs grew by 8 percent, the ministry said.

The ministry also recorded a total of 1,884 IP filings, up from 1,402 in the same period last year, bringing the cumulative IP count to 20,389. New trademark registrations reached 18,175, a 39 percent increase.

The UAE now hosts 356,408 active trademarks, the ministry said.

Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh, undersecretary of the ministry, highlighted UAE's commitment to enhancing its IP framework, supporting the nation's "We the UAE 2031" vision to position the UAE among the world's top destinations for global talent and innovation. Enditem
