LJUBLJANA, Nov. 11 (Xinhua) -- Industrial output in Slovenia fell by 1.8 percent year-on-year in the first three quarters of 2024, the country's Statistical Office said on Monday.

The sharpest drop occurred in the sector of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply where output fell by 22.3 percent compared to the same period of 2023.

On a monthly basis, industrial output in September was up 1.7 percent compared to the previous month.

In the past month, a number of companies announced job cuts due to lower demand for their products and plans to move production outside the country to reduce cost.

Slovenia's unit of German car parts maker Mahle has announced that it will cut 600 jobs next year.

The country's employment office said last week that the jobless number increased by 3.7 percent in October compared to a month before.

The Slovenian government is preparing a decree to give state subsidies to employees who will be temporarily out of work. Enditem
