DUBAI, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Construction has begun on Dubai's first "vertiport," a dedicated facility for flying taxis near Dubai International Airport (DXB), the Dubai government announced Tuesday.
Scheduled for completion by 2026, the port aims to offer fast, sustainable transportation to some of its most popular areas using a driverless vehicle providing self-flying taxi service.
The facility, named DXB Vertiport, spans 3,100 square meters and is expected to manage up to 42,000 landings and serve 170,000 passengers annually, said Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Dubai crown prince, on social media platform X. The initial phase will include additional stations located in Downtown Dubai, Dubai Marina, and Palm Jumeirah, he added.
Sheikh Hamdan emphasized that the project reflects Dubai's commitment to innovation, safety, and sustainability in transportation, positioning the emirate as a pioneer in global mobility. Enditem
