MOSCOW, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- In a bid to preserve its global dominance, the West is attempting to undermine regional stability, Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov said on Tuesday.

"In order to preserve its role of the hegemon, the collective West is trying to undermine regional stability," Belousov said at a meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Moscow.

He said that consequently, the participants of the expanded BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, focused on promoting a peaceful settlement of conflicts, and "the formation of a fair multipolar world order."

The meeting of the Council of Defense Ministers of the CIS kicked off in Moscow on Tuesday.

According to Belousov, senior defense officials from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Russia attended the meeting.

The participants will focus on the agenda concerning multilateral military cooperation within the CIS, said Belousov, adding that they will also discuss the preparations to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Enditem
