BOGOTA, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Juventus full-back Juan Cabal has been ruled out of Colombia's squad for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Ecuador due to a knee problem, the Colombian football federation said on Tuesday.

Cabal, 23, sustained the injury while training with the Colombia squad on Monday, the federation said in a statement. The entity did not immediately say if the defender would be replaced in the Cafeteros squad.

Colombia will meet Uruguay in Montevideo on Friday and Ecuador in Barranquilla four days later.

Nestor Lorenzo's men are currently second in the 10-team South American qualifying zone with 19 points, three points behind top-ranked Argentina.

Uruguay is third with 16 points and Ecuador fifth with 13 points. The top six teams will automatically qualify for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, while the seventh-ranked side will contest an intercontinental playoff. Enditem
