SYDNEY, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Two people have been hospitalized with injuries sustained when a car that was involved in a police chase crashed at high speed in southwest Sydney in Australia's state of New South Wales (NSW) on Wednesday.
NSW Police said in a statement on Wednesday that officers tried to stop a sport utility vehicle (SUV), which had been reported stolen, just before 10:40 a.m. local time. When the vehicle failed to stop, officers started a pursuit.
Police said that the pursuit was terminated shortly afterward but that the aviation command continued to monitor the vehicle until it collided with a utility vehicle in the suburb of Denham Court, 35 km southwest of central Sydney, at 11:15 a.m. local time.
Emergency services were deployed to the scene of the crash where ambulance crews treated the drivers of both vehicles. The driver of the SUV was taken to hospital in serious condition and the driver of the utility vehicle was hospitalized in stable condition.
A crime scene has been established, and NSW Police said a specialist team from its crash investigation unit would investigate. Enditem
