S. Korea's auto export rises for 2nd month in October

SEOUL, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's automotive export rose for the second consecutive month owing to strong demand for eco-friendly vehicles, government data showed Thursday.

Car shipment gained 5.5 percent from a year earlier to 6.2 billion U.S. dollars in October, after growing 4.9 percent in the previous month, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

For the first 10 months of this year, the automotive export came to 59.12 billion dollars, up 2.0 percent compared to the same period of 2023.

The number of exported vehicles was 243,367 in October, up 8.1 percent from a year earlier.

Export for eco-friendly sedans advanced 11.3 percent to 1.95 billion dollars, while auto parts shipment climbed 5.9 percent to 1.88 billion dollars.

The number of vehicles, manufactured in local factories, added 7.8 percent to 367,624 in October on a yearly basis.

The number of cars sold domestically, including locally-made and imported vehicles, stood at 145,756 in October, up 3.1 percent from a year earlier. Enditem
