SEOUL, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's export of the information and communications technology (ICT) products rose for the 12th successive month due to strong demand for memory chips used in generative artificial intelligence (AI) chipsets, government data showed Thursday.
The ICT products shipment gained 22.0 percent from a year earlier to 20.8 billion U.S. dollars in October, continuing to expand since November last year, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
Semiconductor export spiked 39.9 percent to 12.55 billion dollars last month, keeping a double-digit expansion for the 12th consecutive month on robust demand for high bandwidth memory (HBM) products used in AI chipsets.
Display panel shipment diminished 21.5 percent to 1.8 billion dollars, but mobile phone export soared 21.2 percent to 1.82 billion dollars.
Shipment for computers and peripherals surged 48.4 percent to 1.12 billion dollars, but communications equipment export retreated 8.4 percent to 180 million dollars.
Import for ICT products grew 5.7 percent over the year to 13.33 billion dollars in October, sending the trade surplus in the ICT industry to 7.47 billion dollars.
Chip import jumped 18.8 percent to 6.7 billion dollars, but those for display panels and mobile phones reduced to 430 million dollars and 1.26 billion dollars, respectively. Enditem
