NEW DELHI, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- India's wholesale price index (WPI) inflation increased to 2.36 percent in October, official data showed on Thursday.

The increase was primarily due to hike in prices of food items, machinery and equipment, motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers.

WPI food inflation increased from 9.47 percent in September to 11.59 percent in October.

WPI inflation was 1.84 percent in September and 1.25 percent in August.

WPI inflation, an indicator of prices in the wholesale market, rises or falls mainly due to steep fluctuations in global commodity prices. Enditem
