SEOUL -- South Korea's Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok on Thursday issued a verbal intervention over excessive volatility in foreign exchange market.

Choi told an emergency meeting with economic policymakers that uncertainty remained over policy changes of the new U.S. administration as well as monetary policies in major economies and the global economy's growth and inflation. (South Korea-Forex Market)

TOKYO -- A reactor at the Takahama nuclear plant in central Japan marked its 50 years of operations on Thursday, becoming the first in the country to reach the milestone.

The No. 1 reactor of the facility in Fukui Prefecture is the oldest operational nuclear power reactor in the country. It began commercial operation in November 1974, as the eighth commercial reactor in the country. All the older ones have been decommissioned. (Japan-Nuclear Reactor)

NEW DELHI -- A dense smog engulfed the Indian capital territory and outskirts Thursday morning, disrupting flight operations and train schedules.

COLOMBO -- Voting closed in the Sri Lankan parliamentary election on Thursday at 4 p.m. local time (1030 GMT) and the counting of ballots will start by 4:30 p.m., according to the Sri Lankan Election Commission.
