DAMASCUS, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Israeli airstrikes targeted on Friday the Mazzeh neighborhood west of the Syrian capital Damascus for a second consecutive day, according to war monitor reports.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Israeli warplanes launched an airstrike targeting the Zahriyat Housing Complex, a military residential area near Al-Akram Mosque in the Mazzeh district.

The airstrike triggered the activation of Syrian air defenses at Mazzeh Military Airport.

Following the raid, fire engines and ambulances were dispatched to the targeted site, said the Observatory, adding that security forces and government troops cordoned off the area completely.

There were no official immediate reports of casualties from the most recent attack.

The strikes came just a day after Israeli missiles hit the same neighborhood, killing at least 15 people, according to the Syrian Defense Ministry. Enditem
