THE HAGUE, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- The Dutch government faced a political crisis on Friday following the reported resignation of State Secretary for Finance Nora Achahbar in protest against alleged racist comments made by government colleagues on recent violent incidents involving Israeli football fans in Amsterdam.

A crisis meeting has been scheduled for Friday evening in The Hague, with all government party leaders invited to attend.

Reports leaked to Dutch media earlier in the day revealed that Achahbar will submit her resignation later on Friday. The 42-year-old politician, a member of the New Social Contract (NSC) party, reportedly decided to resign following what she described as racist remarks made by some colleagues in the government. Achahbar was born in Morocco.

The remarks were made in the context of unrest in Amsterdam during the match between Ajax and the Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv. Maccabi fans, some of whom were involved in rioting acts, were also subjected to violent attacks in the Dutch capital. Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof has condemned the attacks as "anti-Semitic."

The violence sparked heated debates within the Dutch government. Far-right Party for Freedom (PVV) leader Geert Wilders blamed youths of Moroccan descent for the attacks and criticized their "failed" integration. Enditem
